In my March 15, 2012 entry for this blog, I wrote that Coach Mike would be working again soon. And now he leads the fabled LAKERS. Indeed, life is simple, but not easy. While D'Antoni has his critics, having met him I can tell you of his sincerity, work ethic, love for his craft, respect for his family roots, and desire to do what is right, even when it may not be popular. That last quality may have cost him his job with the Knicks as he resigned last spring in the midst of a playoff bid.
It is tough when a competitor must go to the sidelines, but the great ones do not rush the next step, they let their wounds heal, and fall into the Grand Design that the Grand Planner of all has penned. Ah, patience, ... "not running ahead of your interference," as my late backfield coach at Cornell, Carmine Piccone would remind me. Yep, that's what D'Antoni did, .... quietly, humbly, painfully. But an Old Testament teaching rings loud here: "That which the enemy meant for evil, God will turn for good."
Mike, all the best on the West Coast. You reminded us that life is simple, but not easy.
